Going where Gram has been

When Gram came out of hospital in 1996 and walked back onto his estate, he saw kids stealing and drinking, growing up exactly as he had. He wanted to help them but didn't know how. Sowing Seeds Ministries grew out of that moment.

Schools

Young people

Gram has a heart for young people who have been pushed out of mainstream school because of their behaviour, the same young people he once was. He speaks honestly about where gangs, crime, drink and drugs lead, and about the hope that turned his life around.

  • Honest talks from someone who has lived it
  • Anti-bullying work developed for schools
  • Workshops supporting young people affected by substance misuse
  • Work alongside teachers, social workers and youth workers
Prisons

Men and women inside

Gram spent his youth and early adult life in and out of custody. Now he goes back inside to tell people there's a better way to live. A few dismiss him, but most give him real respect, and he loves the people he meets there.

  • Nine years as official chaplain at a secure training centre for young offenders
  • Support for chaplaincy teams in adult and youth custody
  • Helped bring the Alpha course into prisons
  • Contributing to faith-based rehabilitation programmes
  • Encouragement and mentoring for people after release
Beyond Teesside

Wherever someone needs hope

Gram's work started in Middlesbrough but hasn't stayed there. He has preached at La Moye prison in Jersey, held public meetings at All Saints church on the island, and visited a prison chaplain in Guernsey. As he puts it, every prison has someone who needs to hear about hope.

Working together

Part of a team

Sowing Seeds works alongside churches and Christian groups, prison chaplaincy teams, social workers and psychologists. The belief behind it is simple: when people change for the better, their families and communities change too.
